Overview

  • West Tripura’s 15-member task force began operations on July 15 to collect biometric and demographic data of suspected Bangladeshi and Rohingya immigrants for deportation via the BSF.
  • Officials say similar task forces will be formed in the remaining seven districts in line with a Ministry of Home Affairs directive issued in May.
  • Tipra Motha leader Umasankar Debbarma submitted a memorandum to the Sepahijala SP demanding the detection and expulsion of more than 100 alleged Bangladeshi nationals across eight village committees.
  • The Election Commission has invited a nine-member Tipra Motha delegation for July 23 to discuss a Bihar-style Special Intensive Revision aimed at improving voter list integrity.
  • Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha says the STF operations will uncover any post-December 2014 infiltrations and insists that only minimal illegal immigration has occurred since that cutoff.
