- Triple Eight confirmed on Wednesday that car 888 had been running with an engine airflow restrictor one millimetre smaller than specified.
- The team says the undersize restrictor cut airflow to the engine and cost Brown roughly 0.15 seconds per lap, a deficit it links to his poor results this season.
- Triple Eight has apologised for allowing the error to persist, will fit Will Brown with a new chassis at Queensland Raceway, and says it will raise the supply issue with Supercars.
- Supercars acknowledged the finding and said the restrictor was loaned to Triple Eight for the team’s pre-season launch and unintentionally stayed fitted to car 888 through Perth.
- The discovery follows earlier dyno testing that cleared the engine itself and adds governance and parity questions as teams head into Ipswich, the Bend 500 and Bathurst.
