- Triple Eight disclosed Wednesday that its No.888 Ford Mustang had run much of the 2026 season with an undersized engine air restrictor that the team found during pre-Ipswich checks.
- Supercars confirmed the restrictor was a one-millimetre smaller demonstration part it loaned to Triple Eight for the team’s February launch and said the component was not selected during routine random scrutineering.
- The air restrictor controls airflow into the engine and Triple Eight estimates the 1mm shortfall cost roughly 0.15 seconds per lap, a gap that can materially affect qualifying and race pace in a tightly matched spec series.
- Triple Eight has apologised, will move Will Brown into a spare/new chassis for the Queensland Raceway round on 21–23 August to measure recovered performance, and said it will raise the supply issue with Supercars.
- Supercars has opened a review of its technical and operational checks, and the outcome will be watched closely because Brown has three races to prove competitiveness before the key Bend 500 and Bathurst 1000 endurance events.
