Trier Unveils Memorial for Victims of 2020 Vehicular Attack

Four years after the tragedy, the city commemorates the victims with a bronze memorial designed in collaboration with families and survivors.

The dedication ceremony coincided with the fourth anniversary of the attack, marked by a four-minute bell toll symbolizing the duration of the tragedy.
The 2020 vehicular attack killed five people instantly, with two additional deaths later attributed to injuries sustained during the event, and left dozens injured and traumatized.
The memorial was developed collaboratively with victims' families and designed by artist Clas Steinmann, reflecting a shared vision for healing and remembrance.
The attacker, sentenced to life imprisonment with the determination of severe guilt, remains in a psychiatric facility; the verdict is not yet legally binding.
