Trial Underway for Boston Doctor Accused of Lewd Acts on Plane

Dr. Sudipta Mohanty faces up to 90 days in prison if convicted of indecent acts near a minor during a flight.

Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, a Boston doctor, is on trial for allegedly committing lewd acts near a 14-year-old girl on a Hawaiian Airlines flight in May 2022.
Mohanty, who was seated next to the minor during the flight, is accused of masturbating under a blanket, which was later discovered by the girl.
The minor moved to a different seat and reported the incident to her family and the police upon landing in Boston.
Mohanty was arrested in August and released, with his attorney, Claudia Lagos, maintaining his innocence.
The charge against Mohanty carries a sentence of up to 90 days in prison, one year of supervised release, and a fine of up to $5,000.
