Holmberg is accused of traveling to Prague with the intent of paying for sex with a minor and receiving images depicting child sexual abuse.
Holmberg's attorney requested the postponement to review documents and prepare the defense.
Holmberg, who served over 45 years in the North Dakota Senate, resigned last year following reports of text messages he exchanged with a man in jail on charges related to images of child sexual abuse.
Holmberg made several state-funded trips to Prague and other European cities, but it's unclear whether the alleged conduct occurred during these trips.
