Overview

  • Just after midnight on August 25, coaches were lifted with heavy cranes onto elevated girders near Anand Nagar in Thane, marking the first on‑site testing activity.
  • Officials say trial runs on the Line 4/4A corridor will begin in September following checks of track and systems readiness.
  • A 10.5‑km stretch from Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction covering 10 stations is planned to open for passengers in February 2026.
  • The coaches now on the line are for testing and match the final rolling stock specifications, while the trains contract for Lines 4 and 4A was awarded in February 2025 to an L&T–Alstom joint venture.
  • The 35.32‑km corridor will link Wadala to Gaimukh via Ghatkopar and Thane with multiple interchanges, and work on a Thane internal metro is underway to strengthen last‑mile connectivity, according to Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.
