Trial Begins for Suspect in 2005 Murder of PC Sharon Beshenivsky

Piran Ditta Khan, the alleged mastermind behind the armed robbery that led to PC Sharon Beshenivsky's death in 2005, is on trial nearly 20 years after the incident.
Khan was arrested in Pakistan in 2020 and extradited to the UK last year to face charges including murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.
Prosecutors argue Khan orchestrated the robbery, hiring armed men and monitoring the event, despite not being present at the shooting.
Seven men were involved in the robbery, with all but Khan having been previously convicted of various offenses related to the incident.
PC Beshenivsky was fatally shot at almost point-blank range, while her colleague PC Teresa Milburn was seriously injured but survived.
