Trial Begins for Alleged Left-Wing Extremists Accused of 1995 Berlin Bomb Plot

Two men face charges nearly 30 years after allegedly planning to bomb a Berlin deportation facility under construction.

The trial of Peter K. (65) and Thomas W. (62), alleged members of the left-wing extremist group 'Das Komitee,' begins at the Berlin Kammergericht.
The pair are accused of planning a 1995 bombing targeting a deportation facility being constructed in Berlin-Grünau to prevent the deportation of Kurdish individuals.
Authorities allege the men prepared over 120 kilograms of explosives in propane gas cylinders with timed detonators, but the plot was disrupted by police before execution.
After evading authorities for nearly 30 years in Venezuela, the men returned to Germany last week and were arrested at Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
The trial is expected to span four sessions, with a potential verdict anticipated on April 8, 2025.
