Backup QB C.J. Beathard to start if Lawrence doesn't clear protocol by Saturday

Trevor Lawrence, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback, is back at practice but still needs to clear the NFL's concussion protocol to play in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
If Lawrence does not clear the protocol by Saturday, backup quarterback C.J. Beathard will make his first start since the final regular-season game in 2020 with San Francisco.
Lawrence has started 48 consecutive games, which is tied with Patrick Mahomes for the second-longest active streak among quarterbacks.
Lawrence suffered the concussion during the Jaguars' 23-7 loss to Baltimore on Sunday.
This is the third injury for Lawrence in 2023, having previously sprained his left knee and suffered a high ankle sprain.
