Transport and Farm Groups Plan Nationwide Highway and Customs Blockades for Nov. 24

Despite ongoing government outreach, organizers say the shutdown will proceed after stalled talks.

Overview

  • Segob and SADER report continued dialogue and say representatives will be received in the Chamber of Deputies on Monday to discuss the water-law initiative, but no deal has been announced to halt the mobilization.
  • Organizers warn there will be no passage except for emergencies and urge operators and the public to stay off roads, with actions slated to begin around 8:00 a.m.
  • Closures are expected across numerous states and key routes, including the MexicoQuerétaro, MexicoToluca, Mexico–Pachuca and MexicoPuebla corridors, along with disruptions at northern border customs.
  • Core grievances include highway insecurity, robberies and extortion allegedly involving criminals and some security forces, bureaucratic delays in licenses and plates, and low prices for staple crops such as maize.
  • Movement leaders say detailed logistics will be released late Sunday for security reasons and deny receiving private financing for the protest.
