Overview
- A two-seat Tecnam P2002-JF (registration OE-CLJ) on a training flight from Salzburg lost radar contact and eyewitnesses reported it entering a spin before sinking on Wednesday.
- Search teams located the wreck roughly 300 metres from shore at about 160–163 metres depth after initial sonar and ROV work on the night of the crash.
- After robot attempts failed and weather delayed work, two specialist divers descended to about 160 metres on Monday to attach lifting lines and the wreck was brought to the surface.
- Police recovered the two bodies from the aircraft; formal identification by DNA and autopsy is pending and authorities say the victims are likely from North Rhine-Westphalia.
- The salvaged, heavily damaged airframe has been moved to Vienna for technical examination and the Staatsanwaltschaft Wels has opened negligent-homicide proceedings while investigators probe the cause.
