Trainee IPS Officer Moves Telangana High Court to Quash FIR Filed by Batchmate

A court review will determine whether the police case over alleged harassment, assault and digital abuse proceeds or is set aside before trial.

Overview

  • Attapur police registered an FIR after a woman IPS probationer accused a fellow trainee of sexual harassment, assault, criminal intimidation and digital abuse based on incidents she said occurred during their training.
  • The FIR alleges groping, secret recording of a private video that was sent to the complainant’s husband, wrongful confinement, an attempted strangulation and a knife threat, and further assault on subsequent dates.
  • The accused, trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy, has filed a petition in the Telangana High Court asking the FIR to be quashed and saying the dispute grew out of a past consensual relationship and revenge after he refused to resume it.
  • The High Court has directed police to submit case details, declined to bar police action for now, and listed the petition for further hearing on July 27 with no final ruling reported yet.
  • The case highlights how academy-level complaints, digital evidence disputes and criminal procedures intersect for officers in training and could have immediate career and reputational consequences for both parties.
