Overview

  • Mugunghwa Train No. 1903, running from Dongdaegu to Jinju, hit seven workers near the Cheongdo Bullfighting Stadium at about 10:50 a.m.
  • The team was moving to inspect slope damage after recent heavy rain, leaving two dead at the scene and five taken to hospitals.
  • The group comprised six subcontracted inspectors and one Korea Railroad Corporation employee, and both fatalities were from subcontracted firms.
  • All 89 passengers on the train were uninjured; service shifted to single-track during the on-site probe, delaying six KTX and 12 conventional trains by 20 to 60 minutes.
  • Police are examining whether spotters and coordination procedures were in place and questioning employers and site supervisors, as transport and labor authorities launch parallel probes, including under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
