Train Disruptions Hit Leipzig-Dresden Route and Dresden Buses Divert for Energy Upgrades

Regina Kraushaar convened railway officials to demand more passenger-friendly communication on the weeklong closures.

Overview

  • Since June 23, Deutsche Bahn has closed the Leipzig-Dresden line for track-switching work at Dahlen, suspending ICE, IC and regional services until June 29 at 17:00.
  • Replacement buses between Wurzen and Oschatz have extended total travel times by roughly 30 minutes, affecting thousands of daily passengers.
  • Transport Minister Regina Kraushaar summoned Deutsche Bahn to a crisis summit and criticized its short notice and lack of passenger-friendly communication.
  • Starting June 30, SachsenEnergie will reroute Dresden bus lines 62, 63 and 85 until August 10 to accommodate construction of a new four-kilometer 110 kV high-voltage link.
  • The €27 million energy project is designed to strengthen Saxony’s grid while minimizing impact on local businesses by preserving pedestrian access along affected streets.
