Tragic Kayak Accident Claims Life of 24-Year-Old in Austrian Alps

A young kayaker from Hannover perished after being swept away by wild waters in Osttirol, while two companions survived.

  • Three experienced kayakers from Hannover encountered a deadly accident on the Schwarzach River in the Tyrolean Alps.
  • The incident occurred when a lodged tree trunk caused two of the kayaks to capsize near a sewage treatment plant in St. Veit.
  • One 24-year-old kayaker was swept away by the river after exiting his kayak and was found five kilometers downstream, where resuscitation efforts failed.
  • Another 24-year-old, who also capsized, was rescued by helicopter and hospitalized with injuries.
  • Over 70 emergency personnel from various rescue services were involved in the search and recovery operation.
