Traffic Warnings as Bavarian Holidays Begin: A8 Closure and Village Road Bans

Officials urge use of signed detours to keep diversion traffic out of towns.

Overview

  • Autobahn GmbH has fully closed the A8 Albaufstieg toward Munich from Friday, Oct. 31 at 21:00 to Monday, Nov. 3 at 05:00, with long-distance reroutes via A6/A7 and a request to avoid local shortcuts.
  • ADAC expects heavy congestion at the start of the school break, especially around Munich and Nuremberg and on southbound routes, with added delays on the Brenner corridor due to single-lane and work zones.
  • Rosenheim and Berchtesgadener Land are enforcing Durchfahrtsverbote at multiple A8 and A93 exits on weekends and holidays, turning non-local drivers back onto the autobahn to protect village roads.
  • Further measures are in the pipeline as Ostallgäu prepares trial bans and Miesbach reviews similar steps, while Oberallgäu considers signage to prevent detours that strand drivers at local restrictions.
  • Munich Airport forecasts about 1.2 million passengers and 8,300 movements through Nov. 9, with roughly 128,000 travelers expected on the first holiday Friday.
