Traffic Fatalities Rise Among Seniors in Brandenburg, While Overall Accidents Decrease

New data shows contrasting trends in traffic safety across Bavaria and Brandenburg, with senior-related accidents and fatalities increasing in Brandenburg.

Bavaria recorded a 2% decrease in traffic accidents in 2024, with 381,063 incidents and 495 fatalities, marking one of the lowest fatality counts in 70 years.
In Brandenburg, traffic accidents decreased slightly to 73,543 in 2024, but fatalities rose to 114, up from 108 in the previous year.
Senior-related accidents in Brandenburg increased to over 18,400, accounting for 25% of all accidents, with 50 senior fatalities recorded, up from 41 in 2023.
Bicycle-related fatalities rose in both regions, with 94 deaths in Bavaria (up from 85) and an increase in cycling accidents in Brandenburg to 3,829 cases.
Brandenburg launched a new WhatsApp channel to provide traffic safety tips, particularly targeting seniors, while rejecting mandatory driving tests for older drivers in favor of preventive measures.
