Toyota Unveils Land Cruiser FJ, a Compact Body-On-Frame 4x4 for 2026

Toyota positions the compact 4x4 for Asia and the Middle East, not Europe or North America.

Overview

  • Built on an IMV-derived ladder frame, the FJ measures 4,575/1,855/1,960 mm (L/W/H) with a 2,580 mm wheelbase and a 5.5 m turning radius.
  • Japan-spec powertrain pairs a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE petrol four (~160–163 hp, 246 Nm) with a six-speed automatic, part-time 4WD, low range and a locking rear differential.
  • Segmented, removable bumper corners and MOLLE mounting points enable easier repairs and customization, with accessories shown such as snorkels, rock rails, roof platforms and optional round headlights; Toyota is also developing a Land Hopper folding e-trike to fit in the cargo area.
  • Production is planned in Thailand with sales prioritized for Southeast Asia and the Middle East, and possible expansion to South America; Toyota Australia says it has no current plans to offer the model.
  • The prototype will be publicly shown at the Japan Mobility Show from October 30, with Japan sales targeted for mid-2026 and no plans for Europe or North America.
