Toyota Unveils Compact Land Cruiser FJ, Launching in 2026 for Global South Markets

Built in Thailand on Toyota’s IMV ladder frame, the 2.7-liter petrol 4x4 targets Asia and the Middle East, with no plan for U.S. or Europe.

Overview

  • Toyota revealed the production Land Cruiser FJ on October 20, with a public showing due at the Japan Mobility Show and Japanese sales set for mid-2026.
  • The FJ uses an IMV-derived ladder-frame chassis and measures 4,575 mm long on a 2,580 mm wheelbase, with a footprint smaller than the Land Cruiser 250.
  • Power comes from a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE four-cylinder rated around 161 hp and 246 Nm, paired with a six-speed automatic and part-time four-wheel drive with low range.
  • Off-road kit includes a locking rear differential, hill-descent control, and a second-gear start, while removable corner bumpers and MOLLE panels support easy repairs and customization.
  • Production will take place in Thailand for Asia, the Middle East, and select Latin American markets, with no plans for the U.S., Europe, or Australia, and any turbo-diesel variant remains unconfirmed.
