Overview

  • Toyota launched the initial section in Susono as residents begin controlled trials of self-driving vehicles and robotics in a real-world setting.
  • About 300 people are expected in the first phase according to Reuters and Kyodo, while AFP reports around 360, with a long-term target of roughly 2,000 residents.
  • Testing will cover e-Palette self-driving shuttles, delivery robots and in-home robotics supported by roads and sensor-equipped traffic lights designed for autonomy.
  • Toyota demonstrated a lidar- and camera-equipped robot that can move vehicles to designated locations, adapting technology used in its factories.
  • A total of 12 Toyota Group companies and seven other firms are participating to gather long-term data, including Daikin, which will trial pollen-free indoor air systems.
