Toyota, Mercedes-Benz and Kia Secure Russian Trademark Registrations

The approvals preserve brand rights that enable sales or manufacturing in Russia without confirming a market return.

Overview

  • Rospatent granted the registrations in January 2026 after applications filed in 2024, as identified by RIA Novosti through the patent office’s online database.
  • Toyota registered the verbal mark Wigo after an October 2024 filing, with coverage for cars, vans, trucks, SUVs, off-road vehicles and electric models.
  • Mercedes-Benz obtained registration from a September 2024 filing that permits production and sales of vehicles and spare parts in Russia.
  • Kia registered two logo trademarks from August and October 2024 filings, valid through 2034, allowing sales of passenger vehicles, motorboats and bicycles and the electronic transfer of automotive data.
  • The companies halted operations in Russia in 2022, and there is still no public confirmation of renewed manufacturing or a full market re-entry.
