Toyota, Lexus to Adopt NACS in 2025, Gain Supercharger Access

Toyota and Lexus to offer NACS ports and Tesla Supercharger access starting in 2025.

  • Beginning in 2025, all Toyota and Lexus electric vehicles sold in the US will have charging ports designed to work with Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS), a shift that gives Toyota and Lexus customers access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America.
  • Numerous automakers, such as Ford, GM, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundai, and Kia, have agreed to switch to the NACS. This industry-wide adoption came after Tesla invited other automakers and charging companies to use its standard in a move to unify EV charging connectivity.
  • Major EV charging firms, including ChargePoint, Electrify America and Beam, are set to produce chargers with NACS charging cables, expanding charging infrastructure and providing easy access to their customers.
  • While Toyota is a known leader in hybrid vehicles, it currently has only two all-electric models in the US: the Toyota BZ4X and Lexus RZ. However, the automaker plans to launch more fully-electric models in the upcoming years.
  • ChargePoint, one of the largest charging networks, is rolling out NACS connectors opening up its network to Tesla and other EVs adopting the standard. This move enables Tesla drivers to charge at their stations without needing an adapter.
