Toyota Innova Celebrates 20 Years in India with Over 1.2 Million Sales

The Innova Hycross now accounts for the bulk of sales after earning a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating

Toyota Innova Completes 20 Years in India
Toyota briefly took the Innova Crysta off sale in late 2022, but reintroduced it with mild styling tweaks and a sole diesel-manual powertrain in early 2023.
Launched in November 2022, the Innova Hycross is the third generation of the MPV and the most radically different one to date.
The cabin of the Innova Crysta was markedly more premium, offering an infotainment touchscreen, leather upholstery, powered front seats, etc.

Overview

  • Since its 2005 debut, the Innova has evolved through three core iterations—the ladder-frame original, the 2016 Crysta and the 2022 monocoque Hycross—underscoring Toyota’s commitment to ongoing innovation.
  • By November 2024, the Hycross crossed 100,000 sales driven by its monocoque chassis and Toyota’s 5th-generation self-charging hybrid powertrain.
  • Combined Crysta and Hycross deliveries reached 8,802 units in June 2025, securing Toyota the second-highest MPV ranking in India for the month.
  • The Innova platform’s influence extends to Maruti Suzuki’s Invicto rebadge, highlighting its strategic role in the country’s people-carrier segment.
  • Toyota’s T CARE aftersales network has reinforced the Innova’s reputation for reliability and comfort, cementing its popularity among both families and fleet operators.
