Overview
- Toyota publicly unveiled the compact Land Cruiser FJ at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, with retail sales in Japan targeted for mid-2026.
- India is confirmed as a production hub with a market launch planned for late 2028, production slated to start in August 2028 at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and an estimated annual output of about 89,000 units including roughly 40,000 for export.
- Toyota Australia says the FJ will not be offered locally in its current form because the 2.7-litre petrol engine does not meet incoming Euro 6d emissions rules, though it could be reconsidered if compliance is achieved.
- The FJ uses Toyota’s IMV ladder-frame platform and pairs a 2.7-litre 2TR-FE petrol engine (about 163 hp and 246 Nm) with a six-speed automatic, part-time 4WD with low range, and off-road hardware including a locking rear differential.
- For India, Toyota is planning petrol, strong-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants with no diesel option, while availability in regions such as the US and Europe remains unconfirmed or excluded in current reports.
