Towering Haboob Sweeps Phoenix Valley, Triggers Dust Warnings and Outages

Overview

  • The dust storm developed near Eloy and Arizona City and pushed northwest into the Phoenix area Monday afternoon.
  • The National Weather Service issued Dust Storm Warnings for Pinal and Maricopa counties and for stretches of I-10, I-17 and US 60.
  • ADOT reiterated its Pull Aside, Stay Alive guidance, advising motorists to pull completely off the roadway and turn lights off until conditions improve.
  • Preliminary utility reports showed nearly 6,800 SRP customers and about 3,000 APS customers without power by the evening.
