Tower of London Tops New Poll of Britain’s Most Haunted Sites

A Drivalia survey of 2,000 Britons ties strong ghost beliefs to Halloween travel plans, with Gen Z reporting the most sightings.

Overview

  • Respondents ranked the Tower of London as the most haunted location, followed by Hampton Court Palace, Highgate Cemetery and Bodmin Jail.
  • Twenty-six percent said they felt a presence at the Tower, compared with 16% at Hampton Court and 15% at both Highgate Cemetery and Bodmin Jail.
  • Belief in the supernatural was widespread, with 83% saying the UK has especially spooky places, 54% believing in ghosts and 52% claiming a personal sighting.
  • Seven in ten said they would travel about 63 miles to visit a haunted site for Halloween, and 53% said they would consider renting a car for the trip.
  • The poll, commissioned by car rental firm Drivalia and promoted with remarks from executive Paolo Ronco, highlighted site legends including Anne Boleyn at the Tower, Catherine Howard at Hampton Court, the Highgate Vampire and Bodmin Jail’s ‘Wailing Woman,’ and it noted that 28% feel a back-seat presence while driving and 49% say their car is haunted.
