Towcester to Host National Hunt Racing From October 2027

A Betway strategic partnership is funding roughly £2 million in redevelopment to meet British Horseracing Authority licensing conditions.

Overview

  • The course has agreed to stage six provisional National Hunt meetings running from 20 October 2027 to 15 February 2028, a plan that was announced on Wednesday and remains subject to formal BHA licence approval and fixture-list inclusion.
  • Betway will be the track's principal strategic partner and exclusive betting provider, with the venue to be branded as Betway Towcester and on-site work already under way to upgrade the racing surface and spectator facilities.
  • Towcester intends a phased return with point-to-point meetings planned for spring 2027 ahead of the rules (licensed) National Hunt fixtures beginning in October 2027.
  • Horse racing at Towcester stopped after the racecourse company entered administration in 2019, but the site has continued to host greyhound events including the English Greyhound Derby and retains strong local and sporting ties such as AP McCoy’s 4,000th winner there.
  • The next steps are BHA inspection and licence decisions and formal inclusion on the BHA fixture list, outcomes that will determine whether the provisional dates become confirmed and whether trainers, owners, and local businesses can plan for a full return of jump racing.
