Tour Pauses Before Decisive Time Trial and Three Alpine Stages

A 26 km uphill-opening individual time trial will be followed by consecutive heavy mountain days that are likely to decide the general classification.

Overview

  • The peloton is on its second rest day and will resume racing with the Tour’s only individual time trial, a 26-kilometre course from Evian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains that begins with an uphill section.
  • After the time trial the route moves into a block of three Alpine stages featuring finishes at Orcières-Merlette and Alpe d'Huez and a final stage that climbs Col du Télégraphe, Col du Galibier and Col de Sarenne back to Alpe d'Huez.
  • Race organizers list one stage with about 3,900 metres of climbing and a queen stage with nearly 5,500 metres of vertical gain, which creates an unusually heavy third-week climbing load that should produce large time gaps.
  • Coverage plans make the decisive sequence widely available to viewers in Germany with free-to-air broadcasts on ARD and Eurosport plus live streams on ARD Mediathek, sportschau.de and Discovery+ and paid options such as DAZN.
  • With the time trial and successive high-mountain days set to create or widen gaps in the overall standings, attention is on whether Tadej Pogacar or other contenders will use the stretch to take control of the yellow jersey.
