Tour de France Gears Up for Six Pyrenean Climbs After Toulouse ‘Rompe Piernas’ Stage

Following a grueling hilly loop around Toulouse, cyclists will tackle three straight Pyrenean stages with six major climbs set to reshape the general classification.

Overview

  • The peloton faces a 156-kilometer “rompe piernas” circuit around Toulouse today, featuring four categorised ascents and the steep 800-meter Pech David climb designed to disrupt sprinters’ tactics.
  • Stage 12 on July 17 runs 180.6 km from Auch to Hautacam, with the Col du Soulor, Col de Bordères and a 13.6-kilometer final ascent at a 7.8% average gradient.
  • Stage 13 on July 18 is a 10.9-kilometer uphill time trial to Peyragudes, averaging a 7.9% gradient and peaking at 16% ramps in its final kilometres.
  • Stage 14 on July 19 covers 182.6 km from Pau to Luchon/Superbagnères, including the Tourmalet via Luz-Saint-Sauveur, Col d’Aspin and the 12.4-kilometer climb to Superbagnères at 7.5%.
  • More than 7,100 Accueil Vélo certified stops, rising electric-bike rentals and regional tourism services are primed to welcome thousands of cycling tourists following the race through the Pyrenees.
