Overview

  • Friday’s second mass brawl near Bournemouth Pier involved about a dozen shirtless men throwing punches and prompted renewed safety concerns.
  • The PSPO now active from Sandbanks to Highcliffe lets police confiscate alcohol, nitrous oxide and illegal substances, levy £100 fines (reduced to £75 if paid early) and direct disruptive individuals to leave between 7 am and 6 pm.
  • Dorset Police and BCP Council have launched a multi-agency response with extra foot patrols by CSAS officers, a fully staffed CCTV control room, additional RNLI lifeguards, traffic officers and tow-away trucks.
  • BCP Council intensified parking enforcement over the last heatwave weekend by issuing more than 1,000 tickets and towing 13 dangerously parked vehicles, and will maintain strict controls.
  • Chief Superintendent Heather Dixey reiterated zero tolerance for violence and warned anyone identified in disorder will face robust action as temperatures top 30 °C and crowds swell.
