Tottenham Loans Kota Takai to Borussia Mönchengladbach for Remainder of Season

The move offers the 21-year-old defender a pathway to first-team minutes following an injury-disrupted start at Spurs.

Tottenham confirmed on January 2 that Japanese centre-back Kota Takai has joined Borussia Mönchengladbach on loan for the rest of the 2025–26 campaign.
Takai arrived from Kawasaki Frontale for about £5 million last summer and has yet to make a senior appearance for Spurs.
His early months in London were curtailed by plantar fasciitis and a subsequent muscle issue that limited his availability.
Gladbach said Takai has linked up with the squad at a winter training camp in Turkey, with sporting chief Rouven Schroder praising his size and pace, and German outlet Rheinische Post reports the deal includes a buy option.
The loan reflects his current place in Tottenham’s centre-back hierarchy behind Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso, Radu Dragusin and Ben Davies.
