Totowa Police Chief Indicted on Kidnapping, Domestic Assault Charges in Boston Case

An arraignment in Suffolk Superior Court is scheduled Monday following his waiver of extradition.

Overview

  • Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced one count of kidnapping and three counts of domestic assault and battery against Carmen Veneziano, 47.
  • Prosecutors allege he confined and assaulted a woman in a Back Bay hotel room on Sept. 14 between roughly 3:30 and 5:30 a.m.
  • Police assigned to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office arrested Veneziano on Friday, and he agreed to be extradited to Massachusetts.
  • Totowa Mayor John Coiro suspended Veneziano without pay pending the criminal case and said an interim leader will be appointed.
  • Court records show separate charges filed in Point Pleasant in February were later dismissed, and Veneziano has served as chief since March 2020.
