Overview
- Totality is visible across Asia, central and eastern Africa, Australia, and much of Europe, with the Americas largely missing this eclipse.
- In India, the event starts at 8:58 pm IST on Sept. 7, totality runs from 11:00 pm to 12:22 am IST, and the eclipse ends at 1:25 am IST on Sept. 8.
- In Australia, totality begins around 3:30 am in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, and Hobart, about 3:00 am in Adelaide and Darwin, and 1:30 am in Perth, with maximum roughly 45 minutes later.
- In the UK, the Moon rises during the eclipse with the UK-observed maximum at 7:33 pm BST after the actual peak at 7:11 pm below the horizon, favoring sites with a clear eastern view.
- The Moon’s red hue comes from Rayleigh scattering through Earth’s atmosphere, viewing is safe without eye protection, and the Moon will appear slightly larger as the eclipse occurs near perigee.
