Total Curfew Imposed in West Jaintia Hills Border Zone After Deadly Assam–Meghalaya Clash

Overview

• Deputy Commissioner Abhinav Kumar Singh ordered a total curfew under Section 163 of the BNSS across the Assam–Meghalaya border areas of West Jaintia Hills.
• The order restricts movement, bars unauthorized processions and gatherings of five or more, and prohibits carrying or displaying objects that could be used as weapons.
• The escalation follows an October 9 confrontation at Lapangap near Karbi Anglong that left one person dead in a dispute over harvesting.
