Overview

• The teenage boy from Chagharia was beaten, hung upside down and given electric shocks after a false phone-theft accusation in a Maheshtala garment factory in late May.
• A video of his abuse went viral in early June, prompting protests in Islampur and Rabindranagar and leading to the arrest of factory owner Shahenshah Ali and two associates.
• After fleeing the factory, he was lured by a vendor in Akra and forced into domestic labor for weeks before making a second escape on July 9.
• He then took local trains to Sealdah and Kishanganj and walked nearly 35 km back to Islampur, where an e-rickshaw driver spotted him and brought him home.
• Islampur police and Kolkata authorities plan to question him in Kolkata as his family demands accountability for all who enabled his torture and kidnapping.
