Overview
- Torrent Power will receive up to 0.41 million tonnes per annum of LNG from BP Singapore starting in 2027 under a sales and purchase agreement running through 2036.
- Imported gas will power the company’s 2,730 MW of combined-cycle gas plants and support Torrent Gas Ltd’s city gas distribution network.
- The utility plans additional medium- and long-term LNG sourcing to meet rising demand given softer global gas prices.
- The deal aligns with India’s goal of increasing natural gas to 15 percent of its energy mix by 2030 and bolsters the country’s transition fuel strategy.
- Torrent Power is simultaneously expanding its renewables portfolio with 3,154 MW of projects and 3,000 MW of pumped storage capacity under development.
