Overview
- On July 25, the Ayuntamiento de Torrent sent an urgent letter to the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar calling for sediment removal, bed regularization and completion of emergency works along the barranco de l’Horteta.
- The letter warns that without immediate interventions before forecast heavy autumn downpours the deteriorating channel could unleash flood damage on urbanizations such as El Pantano, Calicanto and Mas del Jutge.
- This formal request was submitted as part of the Ministry of Ecological Transition’s public consultation on the Valencian Community’s flood-resilience plan.
- Local officials, led by Urbanism deputy José Gozalvo, say months of meetings and post-Dana pledges by the CHJ have failed to deliver visible progress on clearing deposits or reinforcing channel infrastructure.
- Torrent plans to submit more detailed technical proposals in the coming days to strengthen institutional accountability and secure concrete investments in preventive flood measures.
