Toronto Public Health’s Final Report Finds No New Infections in Downtown Gynecologist Probe

The agency still urges patients who underwent higher-risk procedures between 2020 and 2024 to complete blood-borne virus testing.

Overview

  • Results returned for 622 of roughly 2,600 notified patients showed no new HIV or active hepatitis C infections.
  • Nine hepatitis B cases identified in the results were previously known and not linked to the clinic.
  • Notifications targeted people who had endometrial biopsies, IUD insertions or cervical growths removed between Oct. 10, 2020 and Oct. 10, 2024.
  • The investigation followed a complaint that led inspectors to find instruments were not properly cleaned and disinfected.
  • Dr. Esther Park’s licence was restricted to office-based gynecology in December 2024, she resigned from the College on April 30, 2025, and she was not reachable for comment as earlier reporting detailed patient allegations of inappropriate care.
