Overview
- Mayor Olivia Chow said she will bring a motion to council this week seeking transit signal priority, removal of speed caps where possible, and increased service frequency, with a related item going to the TTC board on Dec. 10.
- TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said the agency is working with the City on signal priority and will fine-tune operations as service patterns emerge, while offering no timeline or quantified target for faster trips.
- Current reports put the full ride at roughly 46–47 minutes with trains scheduled every 10 minutes, and some riders say trips are about 16 minutes slower than the former 36C Finch West bus.
- Project materials had projected 33–34 minutes end to end at an average 20–21 km/h with a top speed around 60 km/h, but the new 10.3–11 km, 18-stop line is running well above those estimates.
- Public criticism has mounted on social media, and Ontario’s transportation minister said speeds typically rise as operators gain experience while pointing to longer green phases and signal priority as steps for the City and TTC.
