Overview

  • The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touched down near Blacksville in Henry County Thursday afternoon, uprooting trees and lifting debris along I-75 and U.S. 23.
  • At least one person was injured and several structures were damaged, including one reported as a total loss, during the brief 3:34–3:45 p.m. twister.
  • Forecasters say Metro Atlanta is under a Level 2 of 5 risk for severe weather as storms intensify when cooler air collides with warm, moist air.
  • Damaging winds pose the greatest threat, and meteorologists warn that large hail and a brief tornado cannot be ruled out.
  • Storms are expected to reach northwest Georgia by 8 a.m. and arrive in the Atlanta metro around noon before clearing in time for a dry, warm weekend.
