Top Russian General Killed During Ukrainian Counteroffensive, Reports Say

Major General Sergei Goryachev, chief of staff for the 35th Combined Arms Army, was reportedly killed in a missile strike in Russian-occupied Ukraine.
Goryachev was described as an effective military leader and his death came on Russia Day, a national holiday.
Ukraine's military has retaken territory from Russian forces in recent fighting near major cities.
Goryachev appears to be the highest-ranking Russian officer killed so far in the war and at least the 10th general killed overall.
There was no immediate confirmation of Goryachev's death from the Russian Defence Ministry.
