Thompson delivered a breakout 2025 with 26 tackles, seven sacks, eight tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and an 85.0 PFF grade that led the team.
He finished among the ACC leaders in sacks and emerged as one of UNC's most productive defenders after redshirting early in his career.
His exit comes as reports indicate North Carolina is set to lose nine players in January, including multiple former four-star recruits.
