Leah Pruett, a successful NHRA Top Fuel drag racer, will step away from the sport in 2024 to focus on starting a family with her husband, Tony Stewart.
Tony Stewart, a NASCAR Hall of Famer, will replace Pruett in the Top Fuel dragster for the 2024 season.
Pruett and Stewart, who married just over two years ago, made the decision earlier this year, and it would not have changed even if Pruett had won the Top Fuel championship.
Pruett suffers from Hashimoto's thyroiditis, an autoimmune disorder that prevents her thyroid from producing enough hormones, which she says will require more time for her to start a family.
Stewart insists that him taking over Pruett's seat was a team decision and he did not pressure the team into choosing him.
