Tony Mokbel Released on Bail After 18 Years in Prison

His release stems from the Lawyer X scandal, where his former lawyer Nicola Gobbo secretly acted as a police informant, compromising his convictions.
Mokbel is subject to stringent bail conditions, including GPS monitoring, an 8pm to 6am curfew, daily police reporting, and restrictions on communication and travel.
The Court of Appeal cited Mokbel's poor health and the strength of his appeal case as exceptional circumstances warranting bail.
His appeal to overturn his drug trafficking convictions, arguing they were tainted by misconduct, is scheduled for later this year.
