- The IOC executive board approved Estanguet's nomination, with the formal election scheduled during its 144th session from March 18-21, 2025, in Greece.
- As an independent individual member, Estanguet could serve until the IOC's statutory age limit of 70, with reelections required every eight years.
- Estanguet previously served as an IOC athlete member from 2013 to 2021 and played a key role in the successful delivery of the Paris 2024 Summer and Paralympic Games.
- The March session will also include the election of a new IOC president to succeed Thomas Bach, with seven candidates vying for the position.
