Toni Meggle, Architect of Meggle Group’s Growth, Dies at 94

A foundation he created bars any sale to preserve the firm’s independence.

  • The Meggle Group said its long-time owner died on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 94.
  • He transformed the family dairy into an international food company with sites in countries including Japan, Italy, Brazil and the United States.
  • His product innovations ranged from portions butter, which gained prominence at the 1960 Eucharistic World Congress, to Kräuterbutter and pre-buttered baguettes added in 1995.
  • In 2019 he transferred his shares into the Toni-Meggle-Stiftung, whose statutes prohibit a sale to secure the company’s continuity and jobs, and in 2020 the group was reorganized as Meggle Group GmbH.
  • The company highlighted numerous honors for his life’s work, and noted that Marina Meggle, the foundation board’s deputy chair, will continue his stewardship ethos.
