Tommy John surgery ends pitcher Tyler Mahle's season

Mahle, a starting pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, will have Tommy John surgery.
The surgery will sideline Mahle for the remainder of the 2023 season and the beginning of 2024.
The right-handed pitcher was acquired by the Twins in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds last season.
Mahle left three starts early this season due to elbow injuries before being shut down on April 30.
Mahle was in the first year of a one-year, $7.5 million contract with the Twins and will be a free agent after this season.
