Tomato Prices Drop Over 22% Following Supply Increase

Improved weather conditions and increased arrivals have led to a significant decrease in tomato prices across India.

  • The average retail price of tomatoes in India fell from ₹67.50 per kg in October to ₹52.35 per kg in November, marking a 22% decrease.
  • Azadpur mandi in Delhi reported a nearly 50% drop in modal prices, reflecting increased tomato arrivals.
  • Tomato production for 2023-24 is estimated at 213.20 lakh tonnes, a 4% increase from the previous year.
  • Prolonged rains in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka in October had previously caused a surge in tomato prices.
  • Despite the recent decline, tomato prices are still significantly higher compared to the same period last year, with a 161% year-on-year increase.
