Tom Tykwer’s 'The Light' to Open 75th Berlinale

The acclaimed director returns to the big screen with a family drama set to premiere as a Berlinale Special Gala in February 2025.

The Berlin International Film Festival will open on February 13, 2025, with the world premiere of Tom Tykwer's new film, 'The Light' ('Das Licht').
The film, a German-French production, will be presented as a Berlinale Special Gala out of competition at the Berlinale Palast.
Tom Tykwer, known for films like 'Run Lola Run' and 'Cloud Atlas,' returns to cinema after seven years spent working on the series 'Babylon Berlin.'
The drama stars Lars Eidinger as the father of a fractured family whose lives are upended by the arrival of a Syrian housekeeper, played by Tala Al-Deen.
Berlinale Artistic Director Tricia Tuttle praised the film for capturing beauty and joy within the challenges of modern life, marking Tykwer's third Berlinale opening feature.
